Subcategory: Cognitive Efficiency – Processing Speed
What is Processing Speed?
Processing speed is the ability to quickly scan and respond to information. What differs processing speed from reaction time is how your brain absorbs given information and directs it to a logical response. Think it as a slightly more thought induced process than reaction time, as it includes scanning and objectifying what to do in a split second or less, which your brain does automatically. Example: reaction time means clicking a green screen whenever it pops up. Processing speed means assigning variables and being able to find each one when it is given to you which your brain performs redirection and immediately responds with finding the object which takes its own additional step of scanning.
The real-world transfer for this category is immense: as it can apply throughout reading speed, sports, driving, gaming, decision making of any sort, and any other task requiring attentive focus such as programming and trading.
You are recommended to train approximately 10 minutes per day, likewise, to working memory, at a high intensity.
Best time to train:
- Before STEM work
- before gaming
- before reaction drills
- before sports
Training goals:
- 90% accuracy per run
- Fast consistent responses that don’t direct guessing
- stability for emotional regulation and mental energy/awareness
Game mechanics, (Trials appear and you must respond to a series of them):
- Visual stimulus appears
- Respond with clicking on the given variable as quick as possible
- Respond before time expires
- Difficulty advances via shorter response windows, more stimulus, more distractors, and more complex similarities.
- Beginner-Novice-Intermediate-Advanced-Expert-Elite-God, the usual meter.
And as always, Log these:
- Current level
- Current number of trials completed
- Accuracy
- confidence levels 0-10/10
